Oct. 09, 2025
A GLFP 12th Cohort Bonding Event took place for two days on September 27th (Saturday) and 28th (Sunday) with the participation of incoming US students from GLFP partner universities who had just arrived in Japan, Waseda university students who had returned after studying in the US, faculty, and staff. This event was first meetup between US and Waseda students, aiming at team building among cohorts who will be studying together for the next one year.
The first day consisted of an orientation session by the GLFP office, a welcome lunch, a campus tour, and a kick-off lecture by Assistant Prof. Juichiro Tanabe, the GLFP Forum faculty member.
This year, the Waseda students came up with a "Summer Festival" theme. Together, we made chopstick rubber band gun and set up a shooting game using candy targets, each with a self-introduction question attached. After that, we played the "Answer or Drink" game. Students spun a roulette and had to either answer a difficult question or, if they preferred not to answer, drink a cup of bitter tea instead. It turned out to be a fun time where everyone got to discover unexpected sides of one another.
On the second day, we left Okuma Auditorium, heading for the Nagatoro and Kawagoe area. Leaving central Tokyo, we enjoyed a ride on a steam train, a barbecue in nature, and a papermaking workshop. In Kawagoe, we strolled through the historic streets and enjoyed trying different street foods.
Through the various activities over the two days, the 12th Cohort were able to foster a closer relationship and made a good start to their year together as GLFP students.
